I am pretty new to ubuntu and linux in general, so I dont know how to do
any of the fancy stuff you guys are talking about here to report bugs.
But I would just like to say that I have a very similar problem with my
Gateway i5 NV-Series Laptop.

The touchpad is recognized as a Imps/2 generic mouse wheel. I cannot
scroll down using the touchpad, but if i scroll up it automatically
scrolls to the bottom of the page. It's a very odd problem. Furthermore,
I am able to lock the touchpad when I hit the lock button on the laptop,
which complicates things further seeing as it's not even recognized as a
touchpad.

Hope this gets solved soon.
