Your dmesg reveals something interesting:

[   16.609499] snd_rawmidi: disagrees about version of symbol snd_info_register
[   16.609512] snd_rawmidi: Unknown symbol snd_info_register

Can you paste the output of these two commands:

modinfo snd_rawmidi

modinfo snd

to see if there is some strange version of these modules conflicting
with something else?

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
i am using lucid, Ubuntu 10.04.1
i am not sure of the package version.  i know i am using alsa 1.0.22.  i have a
delta 44(ice1712 chipset).  the system is finding but still reports no
soundcards.  i get unclaimed when i lsmod for both my soundcards.  the other
soundcard being sb soundblaster live, which i have blacklisted since in my bios
it is linked with my monitor so i can't disable it there.  i have alsaconf-ed a
number of times to set the card up and it still won't be found.  gnome
alsamixer is unresponsive.  pulse shows only the dummy card.  the default sound
card speaker icon on the panel crashes.  at one time i had sound only with jack
and flash, but now none of that.  i have purge-removed alsa a number of times
to reset all conf.  i have gone through the debugging steps a number of times
only to get hung up at one step or another.  i would be extremely grateful for
any help.  i would also be more than happy to supply any other info.
