Binary package hint: update-manager

I do not Know so much about Ubuntu..... almost nothing 
but i prefer to use it because i like it
the problem started when i tried to update from 8.04 to 10.04 LTS
when the installation begun ocurred an error that says problem of dependency 
cycle
and later when i tried again using update-manager another problem ocurred 
telling something about a hanged
application. and now this appears again and again.
