I'm merely a user like you, not really someone in Canonical or working
closely with Ubuntu.  I just happen to be affected by it and have the
equipment/resources to test.

There are means by which you can manually configure your WLAN card but
it's all command-line based and easier if you remove it from
NetworkManager's control.  I haven't played with them much and they take
a bit of reading (outside of scope).

After I was educated on the history and non-compliance of non-
broadcasting SSIDs, I've hated the idea.
