Sorry, I didn't had time to do a fresh install to test, but with my current computer, the modem still not working without the proper udev rules - the modem still not recognized as a modem device, just a USB disk. I think the package reponsable for this detection is modemmanager, but I'm not sure. The udev rule /lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-ericsson-mbm.rules do this when the modem is connected: ENV{ID_MM_ERICSSON_MBM}="1" maybe some other package must read this, but i don't really know. I did a env | grep ID_MM_ERICSSON_MBM, but this returns nothing (I don't know much about udev, so maybe this is the correct behavior and this ENV is not system env).
