No sounds in Karmic. Same as #37 and #44, I installed freedesktop and activated Default preference.
Re: #43. Karmic was my first (and last) Ubuntu install. Since mid-2009, a pattern has emerged: a) Release software filled with regressive bugs. b) Trivialize complaints. c) Mark bugs as too old to matter. Theoretically, this could go on indefinitely, without ever adequately prioritizing users' concerns.
