guys i managed to fix this on 2.31.92 after trying all the suggestions above (approx 40 attempts), nothing worked, so I closed gwibber and ran
firefox ~/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html then went into gwibber-accounts, selected the facebook account and performed "delete document" restart gwibber and try to add facebook, works first time. maybe someone can confirm this works for them too? as a side note, i notice 22mb of data and 13000 entries in the gwibber_messages section - some dating back a long way. Could be the reason why facebook messages often stop updating in gwibber?
