Trying to update to the latest Java .... but the install program never
ran properly .....

The screen got a vertical line straight down 2/6ths of the way across it with 
the remnants of the
enter password in part of it ...... seems like a graphics problem again .... 
this is the latest nvidia 256.53

But it may be related ..... got a crash earlier with it ..... but after
a re boot seemed ok ......

Going to try to get the latest JRE from the synaptic repository rather
than the JAVA website.
