Running Macbook 5,1, had the same issues as planctus, performed #41 (marked wpasupplicant for reinstallation) and WPA works again.
For the full bit: I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04.1 to go 64 bit from my previous 32 bit installation which worked fine as far as WPA is concerned. After doing what I did on the 32 bit side, I still couldn't connect to my Airport Extreme router which has WPA enabled.
