The thing that's weird about this for me is that I can actually remove the mail and/or sound indicators through synaptic, individually. This solves the problem of getting rid of the mail indicator, but a new user might not know to try this method. Further, I'm sure at least a few new programs will be using the indicator area without thinking to add the option of hiding the icon... it really would make more sense to allow toggling through a right click option on the little space to the left of indicator icons. Please?
