While using the Live CD, Ubuntu could stream very good music with great sound from RhythmBox. Both loud & clear.
In fact my internal, integrated Intel sound card's front headphones jack also worked with this version (10.10 Maverick). (The back headphones jack always worked with all versions of Ubuntu) In the previous versions of Ubuntu only the back headphone jack worked. When I used windows I had to install a separate driver from Intel to make the front headphone jack work.
