Hi all,
Yesterday while researching gentoo I can across a page on the MIni 9. It is
an overview of the settings required for installing gentoo on the Mini 9 and
it states "The Inspiron Mini's mixer configuration is actually the "toshiba"
configuration, not the "dell" configuration."
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Dell_Inspiron_Mini
To set to the toshiba settings add the following line to the bottom of
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba
I did this and then restarted. The hiss from the speakers when the headphones
where plugged in is gone.

i found this on a google group for the mini 9. i did it, and it works.
