Same problem here: Absolutely random lockups, mostly when using Kontact /
Akregator
to read news, while trying to watch a page with embedded flash. Even more
frequent,
when I lock my screen, and go away... Then I have to do a hard reboot, since I
cannot
even switch to a VT.

Today I had 3 crashes all in all. The first one happened when I locked my
screen and
went away, the second one happened when I rebooted (it didn't even get to kdm,
but crashed
before...) and the third one was similar to the first one.

I do get graphics errors (garbled images / faded screen) in contrast to others
having reported this symptom. I should also add, that I have this behaviour
mostly when
using the Open Source driver (radeon module) in combination with a dual screen
configuration.
I.e. an external screen on my laptop. With the fglrx I am not able to
configure the dual monitors correctly, so I cannot comment on that.

There are no entries in /var/log/syslog referring to the crash, from what I can
tell,
but I've attached it to this post. if other logs are needed, please tell me
what to upload
to help the resolution of this really annoying bug.

I have tried an updated radeon driver from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/drivers-only/ubuntu
and also I've tried an updated xserver from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu.
I haven't tried a newer kernel as it's proposed here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1478787&page=97 (Post #964)

Notebook is a HP Elitebook 6930p, with Kubuntu 10.04 64bit fully updated.
Please see attached lshw.txt for further info.

Any comments / hints appreciated! :)
