I have been having problems with Unison on my Maverick desktop too. Maverick's repos only have version 2.27.52, whereas I have 2.27.57 on my server (Lucid) and netbook (Fedora 12). As a workaround, it seems that the Lucid .deb will install quite happily on Maverick, but will need pinning in /etc/apt/preferences to stop it from reverting to 2.27.52.
