1. I ran Knoppix 5.1 live on the same machine and was able to configure this printer and print the test page. Knoppix was using the Backend Device /dev/lp0, Driver Type DB driver, Manufacturer Xerox, Model DocuPrint 4512, Decription Foomatic+hpjis.
2. I hauled the printer home to see if I can configure it with Edgy. Same problems when I try to configure it attached locally to LPT1. 3. BUT, when I attach this printer to a laptop with Windows 98, which I use as the printer server, and configure it from Edgy as a network printer, then everything is normal. Please see attached printerbuginfo.txt (#3) for this situation where the Xerox printer works with ubuntu. 4. I attached my HP printer to LPT1 and printed from there without problems. 5.
