I have similar problem as well (in Acer Travelmate 4502): Boot hangs while loading ACPI modules, but the actula hangup happens when loading module i2c_ec (not sbs as seems to be the case for most people in this thread). After blacklisting i2c_ec boot goes smoothly. And after system is up and running, lsmod shows that ic2_ec is loaded anyway.
