Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

as soon as I logged in Ubuntu Maverick beta, I started Empathy and it started
but doesn't seem to try to connect, as it always do.. the icon to the right
that indicates that it is trying to connect, is not shown..
the windows is empty except the menu bar..the icon in the notification area is
not showing similarly, but there is an empty space and if I click on it, it
seems that empathy is started and working in some way..
If I close Empathy and start it again, it connects and work properly..and also
the next times..only the first time seems not to work..
I tried to restart Ubuntu and launch Empathy again and I had the same problem..
