Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Not sure if it's xorg or drm bug. Doesn't depend on kernel version: reproduced on stock 10.04 kernel and all newer kernels for lucid from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. My motherboard: Asus P5B-VM Running Ubuntu 10.04.1, 2.6.34-020634-generic x86_64 Several months ago, after one of updates from xorg-edgers, sudden system deaths begun. Death sympthoms: - picture on display freezes, mostly during compiz desktop slide-switching or opengl screensaver running, rarely during zoom - most times kernel even doesn't react to magic key combination (sometimes it's still responses to SysRq+R,S,U,B) - nothing about kernel panic or some errors in logs (after successful emergency sync, unmount, reboot) Making some expirements these months, I found out, that DVMT bios settings directly affects this issue. I think, video driver or DRM have problem with video ram area configuration, and this causes video adapter to write to kernel memory. Because of bug in apport, I was unable to send report using ubuntu-bug. Tell if some system information required. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 crash edgers lucid ** Tags added: lucid ** Tags added: amd64 crash edgers ** Summary changed: - [xorg-edgers][965G] enabled DVMT in bios causes sudden system deaths + [xorg-edgers][i965] enabled DVMT in bios causes sudden system deaths -- [xorg-edgers][i965] enabled DVMT in bios causes sudden system deaths https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/641346 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
