I have been trying to reproduce this bug. How many items and how large of a .tar file are you creating? Are you making a tar file of items in your Ubuntu One folder (or User Designated Folder) and saving the tar into your Ubuntu One folder? Or are you compressing files from outside a synced folder and saving the tar file in your Ubuntu One folder?
