I too have experienced the terminal not opening whilst using svideo exactly as you have described. Only difference for me is removing TV from Nvidia settings or disconnecting does not make the terminal start working again. I can't even "sudo nvidia-settings" because I can't open a terminal. Uninstalling and reinstalling the nvidia driver doesn't work either. Run application (alt+F2) and ticking "run in terminal" checkbox does nothing......don't even get the spinney thing.
