there is something i want you to try, since this is similar to another
bug that was reported.

sudo -i
rm -f /boot/grub/menu.lst
(now edit the file /boot/grub/device.map and replace "/dev/hda" with "/dev/sda")
update-grub
shutdown -h

this should fix up grub and power off the machine. now boot ubuntu and
see it things are better.

if it doesn't work try resetting the bios to factory defaults and power
off and on the machine.

as a last resort: "update-initramfs -u" and reboot.

if that doesn't work, report it, it implies that your bug is unrelated to bug 
#94981
if it does work, at which point did it?
