On a side note: With linux- image-2.6.36-999-generic_2.6.36-999.201009211548_i386.deb the boot splash is automatically displayed in text mode as soon as I add "nomodeset" to the boot parameters (as opposed to a boot splash in a low resolution graphical mode with the other kernels).
