Using Ubuntu10.04 64 bits. It hang up the computer when any disc format. I happened to an IDE hard drive connected via a USB adapter and a 1GB flash drive format from FAT32 to NTFS. Apparently it has been formatted correctly, but when scanned again the disks, has taken longer than normal, until the system has been suspended.
