Moreover, the only cure that works for me is reboot (after having killed console-kit-daemon I cannot get it back again). Notice that the rather confused discussion in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/consolekit/+bug/148454 contains quite a few examples of the same memory leak problem.
