If you have a tablet PC it's always connected. And IMHO the best solution would be "plug'n play" as the rest of linux does with hotplug. Device adding/removal shold be detected and the config file should be adjusted. This is also good for people who attach the tablet after installing. Its not very good if the X config is detected one time and never changes if the user changes the hardware.
