I have the motherboard in question (ASUS M4A87TD-EVO) and after installing Ubuntu 10.04 (amd64) with kernel 2.6.32-24-generic, I had this problem. I solved it by applying the solution in Diaa Sami's link (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/474359). The package name was a bit different though, the link says "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic- generic", change it to
