This bug occurred due to the following gconf setting being unset: /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_windows
Once It was set to <Alt>Tab, the alt tab switching worked fine. Perhaps unity needs to check that this setting is set, and if not, then set it. Any ideas on how this setting remained unset after upgrading from lucid?
