I think I've found the problem. And its probably not really a bug.

I selected the folder and want to set the bits for permissions from the files 
in this folder.
This doesn't work. Every time I select the menu for file-permission it jumps 
back to "--" (because its a folder and not a file).

But it would be nice to be able to set mode bits for files in a folder
recursively with nautilus.

How ever, if I open the folder and select all files (and folders) from
this folder I'm able to set the bits for files and folders.
