I've been having similar issues on a MacBook 4,1 and a Lenovo s10e ever since upgrading to Maverick a few weeks ago. Both machines feature (different) Broadcom WLAN cards and use bcmwl. Wifi throughput as measured by iperf is about 12 Mbit/s on mains power but drops to anything between 5 to 1 Mbit/s on battery power, depending in part on distance from the access point.
