I get this when I press the Check button. It pops the dialog showing it 
downloading the repositories. That dialog then exits, but update-manager 
remains all just greyed out. It stays like this until I kill it.
If I run from the console I see the following error after the repository 
download dialog exits:

    self.emit("action-done", action)
TypeError: 2 parameters needed for signal action-done; 1 given

I have tried apt-get purge update-manager-core and reinstalling, but it
still does it.

It started doing it when I upgraded from Lucid to Meerkat.
