Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv
For over four years I've been using a GeForce 7300 LE with a FSC P20 monitor at 1600x1200, connected via DVI. The display modelines were written to xorg.conf back in the day. After hot-switching to a new monitor which runs at 1680x1050 or 1600x1024, at first xrandr didn't check the new device and still showed 1600x1200 as its active resolution, and the monitor output appeared a bit fuzzy albeit usable. After a restart of the X server, nothing changed. After a reboot, the resolution was downgraded to 1280x1024 due to the old modelines. Only taking them out and restarting X solved the problem for me. There are probably up to three individual bugs involved: The fact that xrandr didn't change its output after swapping monitors, the fact that restarting X and rebooting showed different effects and the fact that the old xorg modelines needed to be eliminated manually. What I would expect is some sort of tool which helps with hot-plugging monitors. Or even removing modelines on upgrades when it can be recognised that they were auto-generated and don't serve a purpose anymore. The (now closed) bug report #83934 showed a similar effect and might serve as further use case although it is probably too old to verify. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Old configuration should be updated or ignored https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655635 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
