Okay, I'd like to make a little correction here. The only ones that
stayed around were two mainline kernels I installed a while ago, each
taking up around 1.5GB in /lib/modules, even though I used make-kpkg and
did the normal uninstall procedure.

For all the other, Ubuntu-supplied kernels, their files have been
"cleaned out", but their directories haven't been removed. This isn't a
space issue, but rather, just old directories scattered around.
