I would call Unity "unusable" on a Lenovo S12 ION (nvidia powered). -- Several seconds to react on a click on sidebar element -- Filebrowser shows no icons, or needs >10sec to show icons, and icons are humanity icons and not the ones from selected icontheme -- long lags when: scrolling, open programs, ... much more -- ...
I just wondered because the Desktop Edition runs fast and I can run compiz with GPU eating effects without any performance issues, but Unity coded to run fast on Netbooks makes it unusable on (normally more underpowered than desktops) Netbooks even WITH hardware accelerated graphics . I sadly had to reinstall 10.04 UNR for best experience and will try in 11.04 again because of mentioned performance lacks. Maybe I will install Unity on a testing partition on my NB to track performance updates and see how it improves.
