Could it be??!! I've just upgraded the clean install of 10.04 that I ran the tests on (above) to 10.10 and the problem seems to have been resolved. The page set-up option is gone from the 'Image' menu of EOG and the Page Setup tab works!
Also, checked Gedit and it is OK. Can anyone else confirm that this issue may finally be resolved?
