I have the similar problem when "unredirect fullscreen windows" is
enabled in compiz however my vga card is Intel and not an NVIDIA one.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 30dd
        Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 48
        Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
        Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        I/O ports at 60f0 [size=8]
        Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: i915
        Kernel modules: i915

I can reproduce the problem with flash player too. I mean when I open a
youtube video an switch to fullscreen then back occasionally garbage
remains on the screen. Just like the original reporter wrote it. I have
to erase with a desktop swicth to other virtual desktop then back. Or I
have to erase with another window.

I can also reproduce the problem with eog. When I double click on the
picture eog goes to fullscreen, when eog leave the fullscreen mode
occasionally garbage remains on the screen.

$ dpkg -l eog
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)

GNOME graphics viewer program

There are no artifact (garbages) without compiz or with compiz and
"unredirect fullscreen windows" disabled.

I think this isn't a NVIDIA or Intel specific bug. And I also think this
isn't vlc, flashplayer or eog specific bug. I've never seen this problem
before Maverick (Ubuntu 10.10). Previously I've used Ubuntu 10.04 on the
same laptop with the same compiz configuration without any problem.

As a workaround I disabled temporarily "unredirect fullscreen windows"
and no problem so far.
