I can confirm that the conf changes was not needed, it works now with a stock alsa-base.conf.
A new thing after the alsa update, not depending on the alsa-base changes, is that my Speaker volume is zero after each boot. Changing it in alsamixer does not preserve the setting over boots. But this is more FYI at this point haven't looked into it much yet.
