If you press e to edit the grub boot entry and change the words quiet
and splash to noquiet and nosplash it can help with more output.  Also
you can press shift+page up to scroll back up to messages that came
earlier.  Also have you tried waiting a few minutes?

Also can you describe your system?  Is it a single disk?  Any raid?  You
mention it also has Windows?  Did you do a normal install and set up a
partition for Ubuntu or is this a Wubi install from within windows?
