I'm still suffering from the same problem with FSC Pi1536 (Codec: Realtek 
ALC889A) in Maverick. (it didn't work with Karmic and Lucid too).
If I put "options snd-hda-intel model=fujitsu" in alsa-base.conf file volume 
wheel does NOT work and also plugging headphones does not mute speakers.
The only models I have found to work decently (which mute the speakers when 
headphones are plugged) are lenovo-nb0763 and fujitsu-pi2515, and volume wheel 
does not work with them either.

Any suggestions? Is the volume wheel working for anyone with Pi1536?
