fix for this problem was committed three days ago in iwlwifi git repository, see http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-2.6.git;a=commit;h=0d8e0e28a27779f480adb6674ca5fc29879a2080 tested it on an Thinkpad T60 and wifi speed seem's to be back to normal. now waiting for ubuntu to release an update with the fixed iwl3945 module ..
