If the problem is social, and 6 years old, I'll despair of it ever being
fixed.

Do you know of any source for a packaged fix for this?  If no one else
has done it, I will just package cdrecord into a .deb file, and install
that.  So, I will still be able to use kubuntu packages without worrying
about kubuntu changes disabling k3b.
