To summarise: Had similar issues[1] when closing the screen with v10.04. Now after a fresh install and all updates (as of 4/11/2010), the splash screen flashes, goes blank, locks up and gets hot. Edited xorg.conf[2], everything works until I close the screen, then it goes blank, locks up and gets hot.
Saw that in similar cases, the output of lspci -v and lspci -vn were requested so I have attached them here.
