Does this problem also appear when running Maverick from a live-CD, i e, in a system when the configuration has not been altered? E g, I notice that the snd-hda-intel module is not even being loaded, perhaps a "sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel" would help? As for alsaconf, it is not used anymore.
