The problem seems NOT SYSTEMATICALLY REPRODUCIBLE, since today I've been able to use the touchpad with no problems for some minutes after a restart. Usually (I've not a statistical sample) moving the pointer around on the screen for some seconds is enough to reproduce the issue.
On the other hand I've just been able to reproduce the problem even on the mainstream kernel. uname -a Linux eee-davide 2.6.37-999-generic #201011091338 SMP Tue Nov 9 14:48:45 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux dmesg|grep mouse [ 1.598892] mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice [ 58.786020] psmouse serio1: ID: 10 00 64 [ 185.383101] psmouse.c: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 4 bytes away.
