This problem is occuring to many people. Just look at the duplicates and search at google. Maybe https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/597399 has some good explanation of what is going on.
I personally experience this problem for a long time now. probably since the release of 10.04 and still on 10.10.
