chezka's fix worked for me on an AMD Thinkpad Edge 11. But I also had to install the linux alsa driver modueles from this link, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules . After that headphones and speakers were fine, mic not tested yet.
