Changed my system due to power management and PCMCIA hotplug issues to
the mailnline kernel 2.6.36 and tried to compile the module from the
head source at http://omnibook.sourceforge.net - it compiles
successfully, but gives the same kind of error when attempting to load
it.

Some comments on the net say that the problem started with kernel 2.6.33
or 2.6.34 and that it could be related to the GCC version, 4.4 or 4.5. I
tried both GCC versions (4.4.5 as the sub version of 4.4) and none
succeeded. Also tried GCC 4.3, but this version does not compile the
current source code because of other errors.

Still could try to downgrade 4.4 to an older sub revision, maybe this
works - I'll try it if I have the time.

At least we can see that it is not a pure maverick kernel problem.
