Hmm, well, Anthony *screams* that this is the wrong way to solve the problem, but it does seem to fix the issue for Ubuntu users. I support carrying the patch if it's confirmed to continue solving the problem that Ubuntu users are having, and has no other detrimental effects. If these two issues are true, then I think it's a good case for a distro-specific carried patch that cannot go upstream.
