... and please skip above question. I solved the problem by replacing my access point (a Draytek Vigor 2800Vn) by another one (Netgear WNDR3700).
Using self compiled drivers from http://linuxwireless.org and removing the /etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf, I now have a stabe 802.11n connection (both at 2.5 and 5GHz band). I managed to copy 4.3GB in roughly 8 minutes, so I'm happy!
