FWIW, I successfully downgraded unison in a netbook running Maverick to sync it with a home server running Lucid - simply downloading the .deb (unison_2.27.57-2ubuntu2_i386) from the Lucid repositories and installing it in Maverick using dpkg. So far, it syncs without problem.
