I meanwhile tested the whole thing on a fresh installation of Kubuntu 10.10 and the problem exists exactly the same there. (While on Kubuntu 8.04 everything works still without any problems.) So the problem doesn't seem to come from a broken installation (since it even exists when trying it form the LiveCD) and it also doesn't seem to come from broken hardware (since there is no problem when using 8.04).
